New Mexico Skies

In April of 2009, My wife and I visited the New Mexico Skies Astronomy Bed and Telescope.  I spent 3 wonderful nights imaging under the clear skies of New Mexico.  Below are some of the images I took while there. (click on the thumbnails to see the full image)

All of the images were taken using a Meade 16" LX200 telescope with a Santa Barbara Instruments Group (SBIG) ST-2000XCM single shot color imaging camera.

M51 - Whirlpool Galaxy - Colliding galaxies

45 minute exposure

NGC4567 - The Siamese Twins - Colliding Galaxies

1 hour exposure

IC819 - The Mice - Colliding Galaxies

1 hour exposure (probably should have taken another hour of exposure).

This image is a little noisy.  The Mice are difficult to image.

NGC4826 - The Blackeye  Galaxy - So named because the visible dust lane looks like a black eye.

1 hour exposure
